08.05.21 Wet and windy

Rain and a strong SE wind moving in before dawn, rain clearing by mid-morning with the wind switching to the SW temperatures lifting significantly by evening.

Jamie Partridge and I did a midmorning seawatch from Birling Gap (after things dried up) which produced 1 Manx Shearwater, 2 Bonxie, 1 Arctic Skua, 1 Black throated Diver, 5 Guillemot, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 6 Whimbrel, c10 Brent Geese, c40 Common Scoter, 1 Little Gull, c25 Sandwich Tern. Along with a steady passage of Gannet and Kittiwake. The headland was devoid of perceptible migrants although the strong wind didn’t help things. A mid afternoon visit to West Rise where 40+ Common Swift were pleasing to watch and hear, a Hobby also buzzed through the site as we left.
