First Red Kite of the Year 25.3.19

A cloudless night and morning, light NW wind.

Red Kite over Birling.

No doubt the first of many. These birds are frequent spring wanderers to Beachy Head. Fine weather & NW winds seem particularly good for drifting them from the interior of the county towards the coast.

Overall a quiet morning, although (predictable given the fine weather and NW wind) the first 2 Red Kite appeared over the headland, one heading west at Birling Gap quickly followed by another over Belle Tout Wood. Combined totals for obvious migrants on land were pretty low! 5 Chiffchaff, 2 Firecrest, 1 Goldcrest 3 Blackcap (LP,RE).

A mid afternoon walk along the Cuckmere produced a fine pair of Garganey on the flood near Litlington
