23rd August 2017

A bright start with moderate SSE wind, swinging SW bringing low cloud by 9am.

One of the resident Peregrines.

Generally it seemed very quiet, I covered a loop between the pub & Shooters Bottom. 4 Redstart including the male that’s been present for almost a month now. 6 Willow Warbler, c20 Whitethroat, 10 Yellow Wagtail with the cattle at Hodcombe with another 4+ over. A Grey Heron fly low over the trapping area.

Hirundines have begun to move in earnest over the last 4/5 days, I expect we will get a big push soon, usually an east wind provides a good show as they seem to enjoy a headwind. Although today just c120, mainly Swallow moved east before the murk descended with a change in wind direction.
