29th September 2015 – Finches & waders

The weather continues in a similar vein to yesterday although lighter (but still strong!) winds during the first hour of light allowed for a better flight of birds, all heading east. From Shooters Bottom Swallows, Martins, Meadow Pipit, Pied Wagtail all passed in good numbers. Accompanied by Siskin (c220), Linnet (c120), Redpoll (16), Greenfinch (2) a few surprise waders in the mix this morning with 3 Golden Plover and a Snipe also flying east. An adult male Merlin went west. Little to be found in the bushes with just 6 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackcap, 1 Reed Warbler, 3 Stonechat and a Whinchat seen. c55 Goldfinch were also feeding in Shooters. A Grey Heron flew over the road at the Old trapping area as I drove passed.

A flock of passing Linnet.

A check of Belle Tout wood towards late afternoon produced a couple of Chiffchaff, 2 Yellow Wagtail passed over and another Merlin, this time an immature, bird zipped through. A party of 6 Grey Heron went high out to sea against a beautiful sunset. I also heard some over head last night.
