26th July 2015 – My first passerine migrants of late summer

An overcast dry start with a rain front moving in from the south by 09.30. A morning with a few signs of late summer/early autumn migration. My first returning Willow Warbler and a single Sedge Warbler in Shooters Bottom. About 30 Sand Martin passed through, heading strongly south & out to sea. These were made up of 3 small flocks. I bumped into David & John Cooper who had also seen several Reed, Willow, Sedge Warblers and a juvenile Cuckoo around Birling Gap & Belle Tout. The latter of which I saw east of Birling Gap, early afternoon.

The cut hay field next to Hodcomb farm contained 60 large gulls, including this juvenile Yellow-legged Gull.
