2nd May 2015 – Red-rumped Swallow

Red-rumped Swallow.

After a bland early morning visit to Beachy Head, the day was enlivened by a text from Kris letting me know he had just found a Red-rumped Swallow at West Rise Marsh here in Eastbourne. As it’s only 10 minutes from my home I dashed over, pleased to find the bird was still present feeding within a flock of c120 Swallow, House Martin and Swift. Hawking over the main lake often at close range over head. An excellent bird and one of my favourites. It’s the 2nd in as many weeks from Kris Gillam, only going to reinforce his reputation as the local areas “luckiest” birder!

Thanks to Kris for the super fast call… keep me on speed dial!
