5th April 2015 – Swallow!

Sunset at Whitbread Hollow shortly after the Short-eared Owl flyby.

A fine day with the wind swinging between SE & NE. A couple of short visits in between working. Today brought my first Swallow, hawking over Shooters Bottom this morning, with others arriving in off the sea. A Firecrest was also heard there. An evening walk around Whitbread Hollow produced a small number of distant Sandwich Tern passing east off shore and a Short-eared Owl (3rd in the last 4 weeks) appeared and quickly vanished around 19.10hrs flying along the top of the hollow. 4 Wheatear were at the sewage plant near Birling yesterday, 4th April.
